My Story

Nala was born from working stock at a farm in Devon and sold to a family in Torbay. After about 6 months they made a decision which was to give us the greatest gift ever, Nala! They advertised Nala for sale in the local Classifieds section for the princely sum of £15, blaming their child's asthma as the reason for the sale.

We went to see the bundle of life that was Nala and fell in love with her pointy nose and bright eyes - although we did notice her bottom was rather wide for her sporty frame. It seems she hadn't been exercised quite as much as she needed, so we brought her home and set to work on shifting the extra pounds!

Nala loved to run, she loved to chase and catch and fetch a ball, she loved to walk, to jog, to learn, play and cuddle - she even loved to watch TV with us. She loved life.

Nala was from working stock and needed mental and physical stimulation, so I took her to obedience classes to make the most of her natural abilities - she passed the first level certificate in General Obedience no problem and was soon walking to heel as though glued to my leg! She enjoyed her training so much she would literally shiver with anticipation as I would say the magic words, "Working Time", to indicate that playtime was over and she had some serious heelwork to do.

She flew through the advanced obedience classes and the sparkle in her eyes showed us how much she loved using her nimble little body and tiptop mind to show off her skills.

For fun one summer, I enrolled us in a Canine Agility Class - she was, of course, a natural and easily moved through, over and around the various obstacles with an astounding grace and control - like a cross between a ballet dancer and a sprinter. When we took part in the final class with a competition to round off the lessons, it was no surprise that Nala came first out of the group for speed and accuracy around the course - she loved being a dog and you should have seen her go!

Nala was pretty, dainty, gentle, clever, sweet and funny and was at home wherever she went. She was full of character and grace and was a joy to have as a companion in our home and in our lives.

Nala was in her prime when the inoperable tumour on her spine caused her to lose control of her back legs, and forced us to let her go. I held her in my arms and sobbed as my heart was breaking, while Nala, being the gentle angel she was, licked away my tears and drifted to sleep, looking perfect and peaceful.

We will always love dogs and always have them in our home wherever we go, but there will never be another dog quite like Nala, our angel.
